Science Rising is a nationwide mobilization effort taking place throughout 2018 in the run-up to the midterm elections. It is not a one-day march—it is a series of local activities, events, and actions organized by many different groups.
Our shared goal is to ensure that science is front-and-center in the decision-making processes that affect us all—and to fight back against efforts that sideline science from its crucial role in our democracy.

Kalina Borkiewicz a research programmer for the Advanced Visualization Laboratory of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at UIUC will explain how her lab makes awesome videos to explain science in a talk titled “Making data beautiful: Cinematic visualization at the intersection of Hollywood visual effects and supercomputer science.”
Joeli Brinkman, PhD a research center manager at Chicago CHEC at Northeastern Illinois University, will share with us how to best communicate science in a talk titled: Science Talk: Who needs to be ‘Schooled’ about Science and Technology?
