Science Rising is a nationwide mobilization effort taking place throughout 2018 in the run-up to the midterm elections. It is not a one-day march—it is a series of local activities, events, and actions organized by many different groups.
Our shared goal is to ensure that science is front-and-center in the decision-making processes that affect us all—and to fight back against efforts that sideline science from its crucial role in our democracy.
Science Gong Show
August 5 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join local scientists for a fun learning opportunity.
Our goal is to connect Colorado scientists with community members so that they can learn about the amazing research being conducted in our state. This event is also an excellent opportunity for researchers to practice their broad communication skills. To do this, we encourage scientists to give a short elevator pitch that succinctly describes what they do. If s/he uses too much jargon, goes off on a tangent, or the audience gets bored, listeners can “gong” the presenter with provided noise makers! If you are “gonged”: Don’t panic! You won’t get pulled off stage by a hook; you will just have to stop and explain more clearly.
FORMAT: – Present your research to non-scientists in a 3-minute presentation that is exciting and educational. No slides allowed, but props are encouraged. Jargon/technical language is ok as long as it is necessary and you define it well.
