Science Rising is a nationwide mobilization effort taking place throughout 2018 in the run-up to the midterm elections. It is not a one-day march—it is a series of local activities, events, and actions organized by many different groups.
Our shared goal is to ensure that science is front-and-center in the decision-making processes that affect us all—and to fight back against efforts that sideline science from its crucial role in our democracy.
Science Action Day Mini-Conference in Milwaukee
Milwaukee Area Science Advocates (MASA) will hold a Science Action Day Mini-Conference within a Milwaukee neighborhood experiencing high lead exposures. This will be a community organizing educational and training event. The goals of the mini-conference are (1) to provide an opportunity for Milwaukee organizations to communicate and collaborate on a science policy issue that deeply effects our city (lead in drinking water), (2) to teach and learn community organizing skills in an accessible and interactive format, and (3) to equip Milwaukee community members with the tools and confidence to mobilize and make a positive impact in their community.
This event will be open to the public and provide an opportunity for local organizations to engage with community members and partners about ways to solve local issues important to them. Partnering organizations include Hunger Task Force and Sixteenth Street Community Health Center. More details coming soon!
