Science Rising is a nationwide mobilization effort taking place throughout 2018 in the run-up to the midterm elections. It is not a one-day march—it is a series of local activities, events, and actions organized by many different groups.

Our shared goal is to ensure that science is front-and-center in the decision-making processes that affect us all—and to fight back against efforts that sideline science from its crucial role in our democracy.

Empowering Puerto Rican Scientists to be Science Policy Stewards

September 1

The first Puerto Rico Science Policy Action Network will be kick-started through a one-day live and streamed workshop in Puerto Rico that will connect science policy experts and Federal agency representatives (e.g. USDA, CDC, FDA, NIH) with local scientists, explore opportunities for scientific advocacy and engagement in policy deliberations, and discuss strategies to monitor appropriate local implementation of Federal laws and regulations. The event will help identify groups and contacts that are committed to receive and disseminate science policy alerts and respond to a variety of Federal public comment requests or policy threats. This event is being organized with support from Ciencia Puerto Rico, AAAS-Caribbean Division, and the Union of Concerned Scientists.
