Science Rising is a nationwide mobilization effort taking place throughout 2018 in the run-up to the midterm elections. It is not a one-day march—it is a series of local activities, events, and actions organized by many different groups.
Our shared goal is to ensure that science is front-and-center in the decision-making processes that affect us all—and to fight back against efforts that sideline science from its crucial role in our democracy.

June 23 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
This community organizing educational and training event will provide an opportunity for Milwaukee organizations to communicate and collaborate on lead in drinking water – a science policy issue that deeply effects our city, and particularly the neighborhood of Amani. From 11am to 1pm (with lunch!) there will be ongoing workshops about lead science, lead in our homes, and lead policy.
Then from 1-2pm we will have a strategic discussion with community members, community leaders, and local organizations to discuss lead abatement strategies in Amani and community organization around this issue. The strategic discussion will focus on understanding what community organization practices are already in place in Amani and how lead-focused items can be integrated into these practices. For example, weekly walks could include checking on residents’ lead water filters, providing a technician on the walks to help with filter installation, etc.
This event will be open to the public.
Partners include Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers, Hunger Task Force, COA Goldin Center, Children’s Hospital (health clinic inside COA Goldin Center), Amani United, Dominican Center, and Social Development Commission.
